Medical Laboratory Technology
Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) is a branch of Science that deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases using clinical laboratory tests.
Medical Laboratory is the facility where tests are carried out on tissue specimens to know more about the health of patients to provide support in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases or any other health issue. Medical laboratories are managed by pathologists. Pathologist is usually a physician with specialization in clinical pathology.
Medical Lab Technicians work under a Pathologist. They perform certain tests related to internal environment of human body like chemical, hematological, immunological, histopathological, cytopathological and microbiological analysis on body fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid, blood , stool, urine, sputum, synovial fluid and peritoneal fluids as well as other specimens.
MedicalLab Technicians prepare specimens for analysis, use equipment to locate microorganisms or artifacts in the tissue specimen, monitor tests and procedures, analyze the chemical content of fluids, match blood for transfusions, and test for drug levels in the blood.
